Club History
The Kiwanis Club of Tryon has completed 96 years of service to the Polk County community and the world. The Club was organized on October 11, 1927. Service projects are recommended by the Board of Directors but chosen by the members.
The Club gives $5,000-$7,000 in college scholarships each year to Key Club members at Polk County High School.
We also contribute to Tryon Fine Arts Centers "Be Inspired Grants" for local teachers and support the Children's Summer Theatre production each year.
We partner with Girl Scout Troop #13161 on projects including building book shelves for a reading nook at Roseland Community Center in Tryon.
We support the Polk County Recreation Department - We paid for their new picnic area at Gibson Pool and for Summer Camp enrichment field trips for kids.
Local Kiwanians donated $30,000 to the Children's Area of the new Polk County Public Library and $20,000 towards the Education Room at the Collins Dental Center.
The Club raised funds to help build new playgrounds at Tryon, Saluda, Polk Central Elementary Schools and Stearns Park (see pictures below).
The Club was a model club for The Eliminate Project, Kiwanis International's effort to eliminate maternal neonatal tetanus from all countries raising $40,000.
